When money is tight it’s more important than ever to do your research when choosing a new car, so we’ve done the legwork for you and found the cheapest new cars on the UK market.
The good news is that new cars are available from just £6,995 and most of the Top 22 will set you back less than £10,000.
What’s more, some are genuinely impressive small cars that don’t just look good, but are fun to drive and economical to run…
22) Skoda Fabia - priced from £10,500
Spacious, well built and a decent drive, the Fabia supermini is another winning package from the Skoda stable.
21) Seat Mii - priced from £10,560
Along with its VW Group cousins, the Skoda Citigo and VW up!, the Mii drives really well and is a great all-round package.
20) Smart ForFour - priced from £10,495
Similar to its non-identical twin, the Renault Twingo, the Smart ForFour is distinctive outside and quirky inside. It’s also blessed with excellent build quality, it’s easy to drive and possesses an incredibly tight turning circle.
19) Vauxhall Viva - priced from £10,075
Vauxhall’s entry-level city car may be small and basic, but it’s good value for money.
18) Smart ForTwo - priced from £10,000
If two seats aren’t an issue, then the tiny, but quirky, Smart ForTwo makes absolute sense in the city.
17) Suzuki Ignis - priced from £9,999
Suzuki’s quirky-looking urban crossover is easy to drive and surprisingly spacious.
16) Ford Ka+ - priced from £9,800
Good looking, competitively priced and practical, the Ka+ is a hidden gem.
15) Kia Picanto - priced from £9,500
The latest Picanto is a competitively-priced, sassy, well-equipped, refined and nippy city car, backed up by an unbeatable seven-year warranty.
14) Dacia Duster - priced £9,495
The biggest engine (1.6-litre petrol) in our Top 22 and the only really robust crossover, the Duster is spacious and a surprisingly decent drive.
13) Fiat Panda - priced from £9,410
The evergreen little Italian is still fun to drive and deceptively spacious inside.
12) Volkswagen up! - priced from £9,325
Cute, classy, well built and engaging to drive, the up! is blessed with an eager little three-cylinder petrol engine.
11) Peugeot 108 - priced from £9,125
Closely related to its cousins, the Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo, the 108 is arguably the classiest of the trio.
10) Citroen C1 - priced from £9,120
Not only is it a bargain and cheap to insure, the little C1 is funky and will put a smile on your face.
9) Hyundai i20 - priced from £8,995
With a surprisingly spacious interior and a lovely 1.0-litre turbo engine, the stylish i20 is also cheap to insure. Factor in the five-year warranty and it’s definitely worth considering.
8) Toyota Aygo - priced from £8,995
The third of the Citroen C1/Peugeot 108/Toyota Aygo triplets has the most striking styling, is well built and is just as much fun to drive. It’s also great value and very cheap to insure.
7) Dacia Sandero Stepway - priced from £8,995
The Dacia Sandero Stepway is the crossover version of the Sandero (more about that car later!). Cheap and cheerful… and great value.
6) Hyundai i10 - priced from £8,995

Boasting one of the biggest engines (1.5-litre petrol, capable of 51.5mpg) in our Top 22 cheapest cars, the MG3 represents a lot of car for your money.
3) Suzuki Celerio - priced from £7,499
The Celerio may look weeny, but there’s space for four people, it’s certainly not embarrassingly slow and it’s economical. It also happens to be excellent value.
2) Dacia Logan MCV - priced from £7,295
It may not be the most attractive vehicle on the market, but the bargain basement Logan MCV is an incredible amount of new estate car for the money.
1) Dacia Sandero - priced from £6,995
The Dacia Sandero budget supermini is still the UK’s cheapest car five years after it was first introduced – even though its price has increased by £1,000 for 2018.
