This is an important year for Porsche because it’s the 70th anniversary of the company first building cars under its own name. Many significant models have been produced since then, including of course the most famous of them all, the 911.
However, the Porsche story began many years earlier. Company founder Ferdinand Porsche was born (in what is now the Czech district of Vratislavice nad Nisou) as long ago as 1875, and created many wonderful machines well before 1948.
To get a full picture of Porsche’s contribution to the motor industry, therefore, we’ll take a look at some of the vehicles which did not bear his name before turning our attention to the ones which did.
