Christmas Day is almost here and car gadgets are always a good choice for the auto-fan in your family.
We had a look around to find smart and cool gizmos that any driver would love to have.
They range from the practical such as in-car hair straighteners (£15) which plug into the cigarette lighter to the wacky, so enjoy going through the list.
And some like dash cams will save you money on insurance, so are well worth the purchase.
There is so much technology on the interior of cars these days, that a lot of gadgets are built into the new models. Incredible displays, music, GPS devices and mapping tools are often standard.
But all drivers love a gadget and all shown here are available in the UK.
Dash Cam
The year’s must-have piece of auto tech is a dash cam. Not only does it enable you to film great drives, but it can save money on your car insurance as you can use the footage captured by the camera to prove a crash incident was the other guy’s fault.
You can capture how that big lorry cut you up or see if someone takes a key to the paintwork. You also get to see all the data for your motoring and routes you have taken.
There are a lot of different versions out there now. Garmin’s Dash Cam 35 at £160 shoots in HD, has built in GPS to capture smashes with location, speed and direction.
NextBase have won a host of awards for their versions: the iN Car Cam 512G (£180) has anti-windscreen glare and can capture number plate data at night or bright sunlight.
Driver Diagnostic Device
If you want to really track your driving, TomTom’s Curfer (£79) gives you all the data. Think Fitbit for motorists. You plug it into the diagnostic port and then data is transferred to the free iOS/Android mobile app to score your acceleration, braking, cornering and idling skills. And it has a car finder tool in case the driver forgets where he parked .
Digital music players
Older cars may have a CD player but everyone now wants to listen to Bruce Springsteen or Bob Dylan from their smartphone rather than carry around loads of old-fashioned CDs.
Replacement head units are available with Apple Car Play and Android Auto as well as Bluetooth audio streaming and smartphone connectivity.
Complete with swipe functions and voice recognition, your father will no longer feel like the oldest hip guy in town.
Pioneer have a good range starting with the SPH-DA120 at £308.
Lego Ford Mustang
The new Ford Mustang has been one of the hits of 2016, but few of us have one on the drive.
So build your own Mustang muscle car with a Lego Speed Champions Ford Mustang GT kit costs £9.99.
Personal Breathalyzer
It’s never right to drink and drive, but Christmas is even worse. You might be surprised by the results in the morning after a night watching Christmas TV and drinking a few glasses of Port.
Worth checking that all is OK in the morning.
The Alcosense breathalyzer is £30 and could save him his license.
Haynes V8 Engine
A true petrolhead knows that that Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren all use V8 engines.
Now you can build one for desk and hear that awesome roar.
A 300-part Haynes kit for £40 will keep your car fan quiet in the garage for ages.
Auto Expresso Maker
The Handpresso Portable Expresso Maker for the Car is for the driver who likes coffee on the go.
It is a handheld coffee maker that plugs into the cigarette lighter to make fresh Joe using pods. £94.
Heated and Cooled Seat Cushion
It’s cold at this time of the year, so a heated seat cushion feels good. And it will cool things down in the summer.
This climate-controlled seat cushion (£130) from Viotek warms and cools depending on the weather.
Phone Holder
The Wonder Holder is a simple gadget to keep your phone on the dashboard through magnets. £6.99.
Steering Wheel Table
This Esumic table (£17) hooks to the steering wheel, so a driver can have lunch or use the PC on it.
A true home from home.
Sound like a Ferrari
For the boy racer in all drivers. Experience the roaring engine noise of a Ferrari V12 152 coming through your car speakers.
