The Mazda CX-5 SUV came to the market in 2012 and has become one of the company’s most important products, accounting for roughly a quarter of its global sales. It also paved the way for future models, being the first to use what is known as SKYACTIV technology which has since been used in other Mazda cars.

For the 2017 model year the CX-5 has been heavily revised, with a new, sharper look, a more rigid bodyshell and extra equipment. The UK press launch, which included driving over some extraordinary roads in rural Aberdeenshire, gave us plenty of opportunity to find out whether it’s an improvement over the previous car.
